Bristow rocking a 97 average in the 1984 World Championship final is even more impressive imo after seeing this...

The Bull is quite big though but I think its the way those rings are made back then.

You even have a considerable difference in sizes between the respective Trebles & Doubles measured on this board alone.... which I'd impart gives some more kudos to the big Averages scored back in the Day.

Great post, Grip..

Edit: Should probably take in to account the age of the Board while making that statement; the effect of darts hitting wires, causing movement.

Yeah I think the age and condition is something that may have affected the consistency but in general for its age the board is in pretty good nick, but one segment was even smaller at 7.38mm, I measured a few though and would hazard a guess that the average size is around 7.7mm

I posted the following comparison pics of trebles between the 1978 board and some modern boards on Facebook, its had all kinds of discussion, not to mention some people saying things like you cant compare them from the inside measurements, it has to be from the apex of the wire, and also that every segment should be measured then an average given, most discussion is taken place on these 2 Facebook pages: https://www.facebook.com/groups/20017389...tif_t=like and https://www.facebook.com/groups/69371889...tif_t=like

Not sure why someone would tell you to measure them differently? You're measuring the area we're looking at while standing on the oche. The area we're trying to hit.

The measurement should be from the inside of the wire.... Pissing obvious, surely!

I think people just dont like the thought that todays boards are probably easier to score on, for me it is the bit where the point can stick in that should matter.

Be good to practice on this size of board before a match and then get on the big segments!

Everyone should have to play on these to really appreciate the new style boards. So many bounce outs back then....

I think you can still get the round wire boards Smile

Lol

No thanks, I've played on them enough, but clearly some have not. Nothing like bouncing off one of those giant DB staples or rings on a winning (or was) badly needed Bull.
