DR DARTS:

The News of the World Treble 20 Guild was established before the beginning of the Second World War and was awarded to any player who hit the maximum in a competitive match. The 'claim' had to be signed by two witnesses and then submitted to the NoW. Of course, 180's were not as common as they are today but even during the late 1960s/early 1970s the badge was discontinued and replaced by a 'Treble 20 Guild' Certificate.

getagrip:

Yeah I guess a 180 was rather special with the old darts and from 9 feet too!

mc1958:

Many thanks for the explanation Patrick Smile

I already had a better copy of the badge in the first post, but I just managed to get one of the rarer all blue ones as well - bad picture but here they are both together

I only signed up to say - I was surprised to see reference to the News of the World Award - when watching an old film - shown on BBC 2 today - early morning.

" San Demetrio London" made in 1943 - so it is war time propaganda stuff - I have not yet seen to the end but the mention comes about 8 minutes after the start.

It will be available to watch online for a week or two at least I suspect

I've come across one of these in my Dad's belongings. I'm assuming it was his brothers as he was a prolific darts player in Romford at the end of the 1930's (I have medals for virtually every competition in Romford between 1937 and 1939, all hallmarked sterling silver)

I've seen pictures of some NOTW T20 Guild badges that have a makers name on the back, but mine doesn't, it just has what looks like Reg'd No 70464.

Any idea what date this might have been issued and is it rare enough to go into auction or just bung it on ebay ? Wink

To be honest you might as well just sell it on Ebay if you wish to part with it, the value really isn't that high. The blue enamel ones are rarer than the coloured enamel ones but will still only sell for a few quid, Think the least ive paid for one is about £5 or so.. There is currently a coloured one for sale on Ebay with a starting bid of £14.99 its in quite poor condition with quite a bit of enamel missing and I doubt it will sell for that price to be honest.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Darts...SwcUBYHIDm

Thanks for your reply, I guessed it wasn't *that* special, so I'll put it on ebay. Mine is definitely in better condition than that one!

It's nice to know that my Uncle had one, but it'll only sit in my loft so I'd rather someone had it that wanted it.
